Snyder’s film was as faithful of an adaptation as you can get. More than any other film in his filmography, Watchmen recreates virtually every single panel from the graphic novel and brings it to life and works as an incredible piece of visual storytelling for the cinema.
Now, another adaptation of Watchmen is currently in development. This time, Damon Lindelof of Lost and The Leftovers fame is planning on turning the graphic novel into a series for HBO.
Casey Bloys, president of HBO briefly spoke to IGN about the project, discussing Lindelof’s approach to the story:
“I don’t want to talk too much about it, but Damon is thinking about it in a way exactly as you describe it. Which is, how do you take the material and derive from it a TV show, without making it a literal translation?”
Bloys also revealed that some new material would be created for the series that was not in the original graphic novel. Watchmen purists may not be fully on-board with new additions for the series, but perhaps Lindelof can find a way to add more compelling elements to an already-deep social commentary.
What do you guys want to see in a Watchmen series? Are you okay with it not being a straight adaptation like the 2009 film? Sound off in the comments below, and be sure to continue following Heroic Hollywood for all your latest news regarding Watchmen and more comic book projects for television.
