The world of Watchmen is quite grounded, if you look past the blue man who can do virtually anything or the giant squid that ravaged New York City and compelled the world to come together in a united effort to stop it. But Damon Lindelof’s upcoming Watchmen series on HBO, set after the events of the original series, has shown so far that the adaptation isn’t shying away from the concept of costumed individuals. And judging from some recent set photos and the image of Hooded Justice on a panel, the series will acknowledge its source material.
But let’s take it a step further than that. Per the Watchmen Brasil Twitter handle, there are some images from a few days ago from filming of the Watchmen pilot. In them, we see a priest and a young woman, played, respectively, by Charles Green and Victoria Blade, but that’s not what should draw your attention. No, in the set photos, we also see a hooded figure on horseback. Now sure, it would be easy to automatically point and say “Hey, that’s Hooded Justice,” and this being a Watchmen series, it’s easy to connect the dots.
And given how Jeremy Irons is portraying an older Ozymandias, it’s plausible that this could be an older Hooded Justice as well. Here, have a look at the Watchmen set photos in the tweet below and judge for yourself.
Heck, for all we know, it could be the Grim Reaper on horseback. But if it is indeed Hooded Justice, per that headline up above, that would be the second nod after Ozymandias to the source material and a character from that original storyline popping up in modern times. Do you think this could be Hooded Justice? Or just some random person on a horse, maybe? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below.
Created by Damon Lindelof, HBO’s Watchmen stars Regina King, Don Johnson, Tim Blake Nelson, Lou Gossett Jr., Adelaide Clemens, Andrew Howard, Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, Frances Fisher, Jean Smart, Lily Rose Smith, Sara Vickers, Jacob Ming-Trent Tom Mison, and Jeremy Irons.
The series will premiere on HBO in 2019.
