‘Watchmen’ Star Jackie Earle Haley Calls Out Hypocrisy In Superhero Shows

Watchmen star Jackie Earle Haley shared his criticism of the cops in superhero shows during the Zack Snyder charity event over the weekend.

Former DCEU director Zack Snyder held a three-day charity event, where they screened his director’s cuts. During said event, Zack Snyder made comments at the event that made waves, defending Ben Affleck’s Batman killing in Batman v Superman.

One of Zack Snyder’s most highly regarded director’s cuts is for Watchmen and the event held a Q&A after the screening where Jackie Earle Haley was present. Now thanks to Vamos Ramos on Twitter, Jackie Earle Haley pointed out the hypocrisy he felt was in Arrow and Marvel’s Netflix shows during the Q&A:

“You’ve always got, like, the cops going after the Green Arrow or whoever like, ‘Man, you’re out there killing people!’ And the characters are always so worried about like, ‘We can never hurt anybody, we need to do the right thing.’ But during the whole damn show the cops are just constantly shooting anybody that moves, you know? And then they’re judging him.”

What are your thoughts on Jackie Earle Haley’s comments? Do you agree with him? What about Zack Snyder’s comments? Sound off in the comments below!

HBO’s upcoming Watchmen series stars Regina King, Jeremy Irons, Don Johnson, Tim Blake Nelson, Louis Gossett Jr., Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, Andrew Howard, Tom Mison, Frances Fisher, Jacob Ming-Trent, Sara Vickers, and Dylan Schombing. The series is produced for HBO by White Rabbit in association with Warner Bros. Television, based on characters from DC.

Set in an alternate history where “superheroes” are treated as outlaws, WATCHMEN embraces the nostalgia of the original groundbreaking graphic novel while attempting to break new ground of its own.

Lindelof created and wrote the series and also serves as an executive producer alongside Nicole Kassell, Tom Spezialy, Stephen Williams, and Joseph Iberti. Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross will compose the score for the show.

Watchmen debuts in 2019 on HBO.
