Discussions about this potential Watchmen series for HBO have been prominent since 2015, with the 2009 film’s director Zack Snyder originally attached before Lindelof took over the project.
Yesterday, Lindelof shared a photo teasing the first day of pre-production on the Watchmen series hinting that the project is coming together faster than some may have believed. Now that there is official confirmation that HBO has greenlit the pilot, it is possible that we may see this adaptation sooner rather than later.
Given the extensive nature of the original graphic novel, this upcoming television adaptation has plenty of potential. Snyder’s film, particularly his Director’s Cut is already remarkable in its own right, but there are so many possibilities that Lindelof can bring in long-form storytelling that not even a 3+ hour long film can cover.
