Werner Herzog has a reputation of being something of an eccentric individual and his antics always seem to become a part of whatever project he is attached to. In the case of The Mandalorian, Werner Herzog became attached to the new Star Wars character who the internet has affectionately named Baby Yoda. According to The Mandalorian executive producer Dave Filoni, Werner Herzog became a bit testy when the directors opted to use CGI for Baby Yoda as opposed to practical puppet effects.
In the show, Werner Herzog plays an unnamed character who hires The Mandalorian to capture or kill a target who turned out to be Baby Yoda. According to Filoni, there was a particular scene where the Baby Yoda puppet wasn’t convincing enough and had to be replaced with CGI. When the decision was made, Werner Herzog called them cowards and demanded that they leave the Baby Yoda puppet where it was:
“You are cowards. Leave it.”

The Mandalorian is set after Star Wars: Return of the Jedi and explores the Star Wars timeline between the original and sequel trilogies for the first time in live-action. Here’s the official synopsis:
After the stories of Jango and Boba Fett, another warrior emerges in the Star Wars universe. The Mandalorian is set after the fall of the Empire and before the emergence of the First Order. We follow the travails of a lone gunfighter in the outer reaches of the galaxy far from the authority of the New Republic.
The Mandalorian can only be watched on Disney Plus, which has so far only launched in a few countries. The series is released on a weekly basis, with the first three episodes of eight online. A second season of the Star Wars show is currently filming.
