‘The Batman’: Willem Dafoe Reacts To Robert Pattinson’s Reported Casting

In a recent interview, Willem Dafoe shared his thoughts on the rumors that his The Lighthouse co-star Robert Pattinson is the frontrunner to replace Ben Affleck in The Batman.

Warner Bros. has yet to officially announce anyone as the new Batman, but Robert Pattinson is said to be the frontrunner for the role. While promoting The Lighthouse at this year’s Cannes Film Festival, Willem Dafoe was asked about the recent Robert Pattinson rumors by Variety. Here’s what he told the site:

“He’s got a strong chin. That’s a part of it. Can you imagine anyone with a weak chin ever playing Batman? I don’t think so.”

Willem Dafoe has already been in a DC Extended Universe movie himself, as the actor played Nuidis Vulko in Jason Momoa’s first cinematic solo outing as Aquaman. Superhero movie fans will also recognize Willem Dafoe for his role as Green Goblin in Sam Raimi’s Spider-Man trilogy.

Former Bruce Wayne Ben Affleck was originally set to write and direct The Batman. He eventually stepped down and handed the duties to Matt Reeves, who’s been attached to the movie since February 2017. Nearly a year later, Ben Affleck revealed that he had decided to hang up the cape and cowl, allowing Reeves to look for a younger Batman.

Plot details for the DC Films project are currently under wraps. It’s said to revolve around a young Bruce Wayne and Matt Reeves has previously confirmed that it will not be directly based on Frank Miller’s Year One comic.

Matt Reeves’ The Batman is one of many projects currently being developed by Warner Bros. and DC. The list also includes a Flash standalone film, Green Lantern CorpsBlack AdamThe Suicide SquadNightwingSupergirlPlastic Man and New Gods.

The Batman is set to open in theaters on June 25, 2021. Stay tuned to Heroic Hollywood for the latest news on Robert Pattinson’s reported casting and the DC Extended Universe.
