Daredevil star Wilson Bethel recently joked with fans about his audition as Captain America years ago.
Since 2011, Chris Evans has had the blessing of bringing Steve Rogers AKA Captain America to life on the big screen in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Ever since his debut in Captain America: The First Avenger, audiences immediately resonated with the lovable boy scout super soldier – so much so, that it’s hard to imagine another actor in the role. Now, it appears that one of the actors that were also in the running to play Captain America was none other than Marvel’s Daredevil star Wilson Bethel.
Wilson Bethel played Benjamin “Dex” Poindexter AKA Bullseye in the now-cancelled Netflix adaptation of Daredevil. In honor of the release of Avengers: Endgame this weekend, Wilson Bethel shared a throwback photo of himself in a Captain America outfit where he seemingly confirms that he was in contention to play Captain America before a former Human Torch swooped in:
#TBT to that one time when—well, whatever…
It was a long time ago.
And I’m good now. Great even. Super f#%*ing duper. I don’t dress my dog up as Thanos & chase him around the house or anything. Nope. TOTALLY over it…

Wilson Bethel seems to further confirm this fact in a follow-up tweet shortly after:
… NDAs expire, right?

Wilson Bethel still ended up playing a character in the canonical MCU as Bullseye in Daredevil. Unfortunately, Daredevil and the rest of Marvel’s series with Netflix have been cancelled, and the onscreen future of these characters remains a mystery as Marvel Studios is also preparing to blow full steam ahead with new Disney+ exclusive series such as The Falcon and The Winter Soldier and WandaVision.
How do you think Daredevil star Wilson Bethel would’ve fared as Captain America? Are you ultimately happy that Chris Evans ended up wielding the mighty shield instead of Wilson Bethel? Here is the synopsis for the third (and final?) season of Marvel’s Daredevil:
Missing for months, Matt Murdock (Charlie Cox) reemerges a broken man, putting into question his future as both vigilante Daredevil and lawyer Matthew Murdock. But when his archenemy Wilson Fisk (Vincent D’Onofrio) is released from prison, Matt must choose between hiding from the world, or embracing his destiny as a hero.
Daredevil season 3 stars Charlie Cox, Deborah Ann Woll, Elden Henson, Joanne Whalley, Jay Ali, Wilson Bethel, Stephen Rider, and Vincent D’Onofrio as Wilson Fisk.
All episodes of Marvel’s Daredevil are now available on Netflix.
Captain America can currently be seen in Avengers: Endgame. Here is the synopsis:
The grave course of events set in motion by Thanos that wiped out half the universe and fractured the Avengers ranks compels the remaining Avengers to take one final stand in Marvel Studios’ grand conclusion to twenty-two films, “Avengers: Endgame.”
Directed by Anthony and Joe Russo, Avengers: Endgame stars Robert Downey Jr., Chris Evans, Mark Ruffalo, Chris Hemsworth, Scarlett Johansson, Jeremy Renner, Don Cheadle, Paul Rudd, Brie Larson, Karen Gillan, Danai Gurira, Benedict Wong, Jon Favreau, Bradley Cooper, Gwyneth Paltrow, and Josh Brolin.
Avengers: Endgame is now playing everywhere.
Ben Affleck is officially out as Batman and it's a pretty sad day.
