Shortly after Cavill had reportedly exited his role as Superman after the studio was not able to negotiate a deal for the actor to reprise his role for a cameo in Shazam! it was revealed that Cavill had signed on to play the lead role in The Witcher Series. Afterward, series creator Laura S. Hissrich revealed Cavill was the first actor to meet for the part of Geralt. The internet saw a mixed response from fans but Hissrich was confident that Cavill was right for the role and when speaking to Onet Film, Baginski shared the same sentiment while also addressing the fan reaction.
Baginski was asked whether or not he thought Cavill was the perfect Geralt from the beginning — much like Hissrich did — but remained rather tight-lipped as he assured fans will love him in the role:
“Even if I did, I can’t say that, mind you. But I’m, of course, satisfied. The audience will love him.”
The polish outlet also asked the producer point blank why Cavill is the perfect Geralt to which he responded:
“You will see on the screen. Now my lips are sealed. Henry Cavill is a big, strong guy, I will not mess with him.”
In addition, Baginski addressed the mix response from fans online when asked about the criticism thrown at Cavill after he was revealed in the role:
“People have a right to judge. We get money also because we’re exposed to such critique. If someone feels better because they declared on the Internet that they don’t like some casting choice, it paradoxically means that we’re doing our job well. We are supposed to provide entertainment to people, so if for someone such entertainment is slipping out their tongue on the Internet, then cool. I understand that fans have their own imaginations, but everyone, that will play in the series, came through a thick sieve of castings.”
The Witcher is currently in development and stars Henry Cavill, Freya Allan, Anya Chalotra, Johdi May, Adam Levy, MyAnna Buring, Mimi Ndiweni, Therica Wilson-Read, and Millie Brady. Stay tuned for more details on a release date for the upcoming Netflix series.
