‘Wonder Woman 2’: Chris Pine’s Potential Return Being Considered

Since Wonder Woman is set during World War I while the rest of the DC Extended Universe has been set in contemporary times, it’s rather understandable that the “mortal” portion of the cast reappearing in the modern day is something that wouldn’t be likely to happen. Still, director Patty Jenkins is still trying to figure out what the best course of action is concerning Chris Pine’s take on Steve Trevor, which has commonly been cited as one of the film’s highlights.

Fandango recently asked Jenkins about Pine’s potential return in a sequel (in spite of the obvious problems that would need to be worked around to ensure his return), and Jenkins stated that she’s weighing out her options.

“All I can say is [Steve’s appearance in future installments] was a dilemma… It’s something I hope we don’t talk about in the public [because] I want people to see, but it’s very hard to know which characters will be in the next movie because of the time period, so it’s a big question.”

Suffice to say, it’d be interesting to see how they’d get around the logical problems presented by bringing a character from a distant prequel in a shared universe into the modern day.

Pine himself kept rather quiet about the possibility of showing up in another superhero movie, noting that he was looking at the franchise with one movie at a time – though he jokingly expressed interest in doing a spin-off, presumably with himself in the lead role.

“The movie’s gotta come out, and then we’ll see. What about Wonder Man?”

Unfortunately for Pine, a character named Wonder Man has already been taken by Marvel – but still, Pine’s box office clout and the warm reception to his character suggests that he’ll be back eventually one way or another as the DCEU continues to expand.

Wonder Woman is playing in theaters. Its cast includes Gal Gadot as Diana Prince (Wonder Woman), Chris Pine as Steve Trevor, Connie Nielsen as Queen Hippolyta, Robin Wright as General Antiope, Lucy Davis as Etta Candy, David Thewlis as Sir Patrick Morgan, Elena Anaya as Doctor Isabel Maru (Doctor Poison), and Danny Huston as General Erich Ludendorff.
