‘Wonder Woman’ Headed For $50M+ Second Weekend

The Hollywood Reporter has revealed that the DCEU’s first female-led installment, Wonder Woman, could see as little as a 50% drop in its second weekend at the domestic box office, meaning the film could take in another $50 million-plus according to box-office analyst Jeff Bock and others.

This would continue Princess Diana of Themyscira’s reign at No.1 at the box office as she goes up against The Mummy starring Tom Cruise which is currently targeting a $35 million domestic debut.

In the past, DC films have seen a steep second-weekend drop between 64 and 69 percent. Man of Steel saw a 64.6% drop taking in a total of $41.2 million in its second weekend at the domestic box office when it kicked off the DCEU back in 2013 followed by Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice with a 69% drop of $51 million and Suicide Squad with a 67% drop of $43.5 in their second weekends last year.

The film stars Gal Gadot as Diana Prince/Wonder Woman, Chris Pine as Steve Trevor, Robin Wright as General Antiope, Connie Nielsen as Queen Hippolyta, Lisa Loven Kongsli as Menalippe, Danny Huston as General Erich Ludendorff, David Thewlis as Sir Patrick Morgan, Elena Anaya as Doctor Maru, Ewen Bremner as Charlie, Saïd Taghmaoui as Sameer and Eugene Brave Rock as the Chief. ’Wonder Woman’ hits movie theaters around the world next summer when Gal Gadot returns as the title character in the epic action adventure from director Patty Jenkins.
