‘Wonder Woman’ Sequel Will Be ‘Totally Different’ Says Patty Jenkins

Wonder Woman opened to critical acclaim and record-breaking box office success, leaving audiences inspired and optimistic about the future of the DC Extended Universe after the lukewarm reception of previous entries in the franchise. Now, fans are eager to see what the highly-anticipated sequel will deliver and director Patty Jenkins recently teased that the film will be “totally different” during an interview with Entertainment Tonight at the Palm Springs Film Festival.

Jenkins discussed how the film will feature familiar elements, but it will also stand on its own as a “totally different film”:

“We’re actually making a totally different film with a lot of the same, similar like things that we love, but it’s its own movie completely, so it’s not ‘two’ to us. It’s an entirely new adventure together that we couldn’t be luckier [to do].”

Jenkins also commented on the possibility of including Lynda Carter – who played the DC heroine in the 70s television series – in the sequel for a cameo appearance:

“We’ll see. Lynda is one of the dearest people to us, has been a great mentor and dear friend. And we actually desperately tried to get her in the first one and we had the scheduling that couldn’t work, so she’s always been a part of our Wonder Woman family. We won’t say anything yet, but we certainly—there’s no lack of trying.”

Plot details for the Wonder Woman sequel are currently under wraps, though the film is set to follow the Amazonian Princess during the Cold War as she faces off against the Soviet Union in the 1980s. Patty Jenkins will also co-write and produce the Wonder Woman sequel with The Expendables co-writer Dave Callaham signed on to pen the film based on a treatment by Jenkins and DC creative chief officer Geoff Johns.

Wonder Woman 2 is currently scheduled to be released in theaters on November 1, 2019.
