‘Wonder Woman’: Gal Gadot Explains How Beyoncé Helped Her Audition

'Wonder Woman' star Gal Gadot discusses her audition for the role and explains how music icon Beyoncé helped her land the role.

Wonder Woman will be the title character’s first and long overdue live-action solo film, but audiences were already introduced to the classic DC Comics heroine in Zack Snyder’s Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice. During an interview with W Magazine, actress Gal Gadot discussed her audition for the film and credited music icon Beyoncé with helping her land the role.

Gadot explained how Beyoncé helped calm her nerves during the audition process.

“When I auditioned for Batman v Superman, I didn’t know it was for Wonder Woman. The director, Zack Snyder, asked me to do a camera test. That was torture. They were looking at six or seven girls, and we were all in separate trailers and were told to stay inside until they called us. Waiting is my enemy Number One, and I was losing my mind. So, I decided to put on Beyoncé. Who runs the world? Girls! I just started to dance, and I let my anxiety go. Thank you, Beyoncé!”

Gal Gadot’s Wonder Woman was one of the few divisive elements of Batman v. Superman, with many praising her take on the beloved character as one of the few bright spots of the film. I imagine for many the casting of Gal Gadot will be just one more reason to be grateful for Beyoncé’s influence.

Before she was Wonder Woman, she was Diana, princess of the Amazons, trained to be an unconquerable warrior. Raised on a sheltered island paradise, when an American pilot crashes on their shores and tells of a massive conflict raging in the outside world, Diana leaves her home, convinced she can stop the threat. Fighting alongside man in a war to end all wars, Diana will discover her full powers… and her true destiny.

Directed by Patty Jenkins, Wonder Woman stars Gal Gadot, Chris Pine, Connie Nielsen, Robin Wright, David Thewlis, Danny Huston, Elena Anaya, Ewen Bremner and Saïd Taghmaoui.

Wonder Woman will be released in theaters on June 2, 2017.
