Captain Marvel earned $153 million in North America and $455 million worldwide in its opening weekend, giving Brie Larson’s MCU debut the biggest global opening for a woman-fronted film and the second-biggest opening for a superhero film. In response, Wonder Woman star Gal Gadot congratulated Brie Larson on the success of Captain Marvel by sharing a message and drawing of Diana Prince with Carol Danvers on her official Instagram account.
Brie Larson will next be seen as Carol Danvers in Avengers: Endgame and Gal Gadot will return as Diana Prince in Wonder Woman 1984.
Set in the 1990s, Marvel Studios’ “Captain Marvel” is an all-new adventure from a previously unseen period in the history of the Marvel Cinematic Universe that follows the journey of Carol Danvers as she becomes one of the universe’s most powerful heroes. While a galactic war between two alien races reaches Earth, Danvers finds herself and a small cadre of allies at the center of the maelstrom.
Directed by Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck, Captain Marvel stars Brie Larson, Samuel L. Jackson, Ben Mendelsohn, Djimon Hounsou, Lee Pace, Lashana Lynch, Gemma Chan, Algenis Perez Soto, Rune Temte, McKenna Grace, Clark Gregg, and Jude Law.
