Elsewhere at the box office, Alex Kurtzman’s The Mummy, which is the first film in Universal’s Dark Universe, is being buried by Wonder Woman, with $12 million coming in from Friday’s box office. The film is expected to make around $30 million over the weekend, which is a pretty low number given the fact that it’s less than what 1999’s The Mummy made.
Also, it cost Universal $125 million to make the film and given the fact that it’s supposed to set up an entire connected universe of monster movies, this isn’t a particularly good sign. Perhaps the international box office might just save The Mummy, as the film is expected to make $139 million overseas in 63 markets and $19 million so far in China alone.
The box office numbers will continue to be updated to reflect the most current trends over the weekend. Stay tuned to Heroic Hollywood for more information.
