‘Wonder Woman’: Warner Bros. Officially Announces Sequel

Warner Bros. has officially greenlit Wonder Woman 2, the sequel to the first female-led installment of the DCEU directed by Patty Jenkins.

The sequels announcement came today during the studio’s presentation at San Diego Comic-Con. The news doesn’t come as a surprise as the DCEU’s first female-led film now ranks second in the franchise behind the global take of Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice at $873.3 million.

Wonder Woman itself is a major step forward for representation in the entertainment industry. Not only did director Patty Jenkins manage to set the record for the highest domestic opening weekend for a film directed by a woman in history, she has also gone on to set the record for the highest grossing female-directed film of all time sans a male co-director over Kung Fu Panda 2‘s global take of $665.7 million. Jenkins crafted a feminist film that will inspire young women for generations to come but also reached and resonated with a male audience at the same time, helping push the DCEU past the $3 billion mark at the global box office.

Stay tuned to Heroic Hollywood for all the latest news on the future of the DCEU as we learn it.
