The sequel to 2017's box-office hit 'Wonder Woman' is set to start production this summer, according to producer Charles Roven.
While this was the character’s first solo outing, Wonder Woman’s debut in Batman v Superman: Dawn Of Justice was met with near universal praise, signalling that Warner Bros. may have a hit on their hands when her solo film came out. Naturally fans around the world are waiting for Wonder Woman to continue her silver screen adventures and it’s no surprise that Warner Bros. would fast-track the development of a sequel to the 2017 box-office darling. With rumors abound the last few weeks about the film’s possible villain and working title, we have some official news on the status of the sequel.
Comicbook.com recently sat down with DCEU Producer Charles Roven and asked him about the status of the untitled Wonder Woman sequel. The producer was more than open to share the film’s status. He said:
“We’re in what I would call development of the screenplay. We finally, I think, have a good story to tell. Not kind of – we do believe we have a good story to tell. And then we’re also just moving out of what normally we would call soft prep into hard prep. We’re hoping to start shooting the movie sometime this summer, and hope to have it out by the end of ’19.”
Surely this news will excite fans and assure them that regardless of all the behind-the-scenes drama of the DCEU, the studio’s belief in Wonder Woman remains unshakeable.
Plot details for the Wonder Woman sequel are currently under wraps, though the film is said to follow the Amazonian Princess during the Cold War as she faces off against the Soviet Union in the 1980s. Chris Pine is also rumored to be returning as Steve Trevor. Patty Jenkins is back in the director’s chair for the sequel, working from a script by The Expendables co-writer Dave Callaham. The script is based on a treatment by Jenkins and DC President and Chief Creative Officer Geoff Johns.
Wonder Woman 2 is currently set to hit theaters on November 1, 2019.
