‘Wonder Woman’ Ties ‘The Dark Knight’ & ‘Iron Man’ On Rotten Tomatoes

Not only does Wonder Woman have the honor of being the first certified fresh DC Extended Universe film on Rotten Tomatoes, but it also tied the record as the highest-rated live-action superhero film on the website with two other game-changing films in the genre.

As of the publishing of this article, Wonder Woman currently has a 94% approval rating with 218 fresh reviews and only 15 rotten with an average rating of 7.6/10. With this incredible accomplishment, the Patty Jenkins-directed film has tied with Marvel’s Iron Man and DC’s The Dark Knight. 

How fitting is it that those two films helped lead the way for what comic book movies are like now in this decade? Iron Man was the first film in the Marvel Cinematic Universe and the success of Christopher Nolan’s The Dark Knight showed the world that these characters need to be taken seriously.

And now after nine years, the first film to tie the live-action superhero movie record on Rotten Tomatoes is Wonder Woman – which is a game changer in its own right.

For one, the film’s inevitable success at the box office this weekend will serve as a major statement on the state of not only female-driven superhero films, but the entire industry as a whole. Now that a major tent pole release directed by a woman and also starring a strong woman at the center is becoming a hit with audiences, hopefully it will signal to the studios that considering more women both behind and in front of the camera will only benefit them in the long run.
