Wonder Woman director Patty Jenkins sat down to discuss the future of the DCEU and the arrival of Joss Whedon and his Batgirl project!
The news of a Batgirl film marks the third female-led superhero project at Warner Bros. This is of course following Wonder Woman and Gotham City Sirens. In a new interview with the Toronto Sun, Patty Jenkins – the director of Wonder Woman – sat down and discussed the upcoming Batgirl project, and Whedon’s involvement:
“[On Joss Whedon’s involvement] I don’t even know if that deal is done or not – I don’t have the inside scoop on that. But if it is done, then I’m excited about it. I think it’s super exciting. The tone of Joss’ work is great for female superheroes. He takes such a fun approach and I think he’ll have fun in the DC universe, which will be excited to have him.”
The filmmaker then discussed her upcoming Wonder Woman film, which is set to open everywhere on June 2nd:
“Gal’s supernaturally beautiful and unbelievably kind and thoughtful and intelligent and wise, yet bright and youthful and hopeful in such a sweet way.”
Before concluding the interview, Jenkins discussed the future of the DCEU, and where she hopes to see the universe go:
“There are a lot of directors I’m really excited about and the storylines are all vastly different, with different tones and very different approaches to storytelling. I think there’s a treasure trove of great characters here. Jason (Momoa) is off to do Aquaman right now – that’s such a cool story. It has its own vibe and dynamic completely. I’m excited to see each one of these films.”
Jenkins is one of the best female directors around, so WB and DC snapping her up for Wonder Woman looks to be one of the best decisions the studio has made. Here’s hoping the film performs extremely well, as I would love to see Jenkins return to the property, considering the passion she has for the character and this universe!
Wonder Woman is set to hit theatres everywhere on June 2nd, 2017.
