Woody Harrelson confirmed that he is not playing the bounty hunter Garris Shrike in the upcoming Untitled Han Solo Star Wars Story.
Woody Harrelson has confirmed his character in the upcoming Untitled Han Solo Star Wars Story is named Beckett, not Garris Shrike, like he nonchalantly said back at Sundance earlier this year.
Harrelson was a guest last night on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon to promote his new film Lost in London when he was asked about joining the Star Wars spin-off:
“Yeah, I play a guy named Beckett who is kind of a criminal and a mentor to Han. That’s all I can say.”
Shrike himself was a bounty hunter who raised Han Solo, introduced in the expanded universe novel The Paradise Snare by A.C. Crispin. While Beckett does not share the same name, the character being a mentor to the scruffy looking nerf herder leaves the door open to his character possibly being based on Shrike.
Harrelson also confirmed he will be working on the project until July. You can watch the clip below.
The cast also includes Alden Ehrenreich as the young Han Solo, Donald Glover as the young Lando Calrissian, Emilia Clarke, Thandie Newton, Phoebe Waller-Bridge, and Michael K. Williams who is rumored to be playing the villain.
The Untitled Han Solo Star Wars Story has been written by Lawrence Kasdan and son Jon Kasdan. The film is being directed by The Lego Movie directors Phil Lord and Chris Miller and is currently slated to hit theaters May 25, 2018
