Paramount Halts Pre-Production On David Fincher’s ‘World War Z’ Sequel

The Playlist reports Paramount has halted pre-production on David Fincher World War Z sequel.

While critical reception to 2013’s World War Z was mixed, the feature film adaption of the Max Brooks book proved to be a financial success and Paramount announced plans to move forward with a sequel. While David Fincher signed on to helm the project after J. A. Bayona departed to direct Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom and producer Dede Gardner confirmed the sequel would begin production in June 2019, Playlist sources state Paramount Pictures has halted pre-production on the World War Z sequel.

The project had been assembling a staff for principal photography across five different countries, including a six-month shoot in Atlanta, but these workers were never officially hired as the film never received the green light. According to the outlet, David Fincher and his team proposed a smaller budget than the original.

With Paramount procrastinating on green-lighting the project, David Fincher moved on to direct the Netflix series Mindhunter for two seasons. Brad Pratt, who portrayed former United Nations investigator Gerry Lane in the original film, was set to reprise his role for the sequel.
