‘Glass’ Star James McAvoy Unsure If The X-Men & Avengers Will Crossover On Film

During an interview with Yahoo, Glass star James McAvoy expressed his doubts about seeing the X-Men join the Avengers in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

With Disney’s acquisition of 21st Century Fox’s entertainment assets expected to close by March, fans are curious to see how Disney-owned Marvel Studios will incorporate the X-Men into their shared universe once they obtain film rights to the characters. While some fans are expecting to see a new incarnation of the X-Men in the MCU, others are hoping the current version of the mutant team that follows James McAvoy’s Professor X will crossover into the same universe as The Avengers. However, Glass star James McAvoy cast doubt of a possible X-Men and Avengers crossover, stating he’s unsure if such an event would be possible:

“I don’t know if the X-Men could go into the Marvel universe, I’m not sure. Maybe they could? But I think what’s different about the Avengers universe anyway is you’ve only got a couple of superheroes in the world. There’s a good amount, but there’s like a couple of football teams’ worth, you know what I mean? Whereas in the X-Men world you’re potentially saying there are hundreds of thousands, maybe millions of [superheroes] and the social implication of that is different.”

After Glass hits theaters, McAvoy reprises his role as Charles Xavier in a new X-Men film that adapts the Dark Phoenix saga.

In DARK PHOENIX, the X-MEN face their most formidable and powerful foe: one of their own, Jean Grey. During a rescue mission in space, Jean is nearly killed when she is hit by a mysterious cosmic force. Once she returns home, this force not only makes her infinitely more powerful, but far more unstable. Wrestling with this entity inside her, Jean unleashes her powers in ways she can neither comprehend nor contain. With Jean spiraling out of control, and hurting the ones she loves most, she begins to unravel the very fabric that holds the X-Men together. Now, with this family falling apart, they must find a way to unite — not only to save Jean’s soul, but to save our very planet from aliens who wish to weaponize this force and rule the galaxy.

Directed by Simon Kinberg, Dark Phoenix stars James McAvoy, Michael Fassbender, Jennifer Lawrence, Nicholas Hoult, Sophie Turner, Tye Sheridan, Alexandra Shipp, Kodi Smit-McPhee, Evan Peters, and Jessica Chastain.

Dark Phoenix will be released in theaters on June 7, 2019.
