The latest trailer for X-Men: Dark Phoenix was packed with many of the franchises popular characters making their return to the X-Men universe since the controversial X-Men: Apocalypse. As always the trailer also featured many Easter eggs that went over many fans heads. One in specific towards the end of the trailer when we see our heroes tied up and powerless on a train surrounded by “MCU” soldiers?
The MCU labels on the soldier’s armor have many speculating as to why Fox and director Simon Kinberg decided to include them in the film.
Could they be a subtle hint to the close to finalization deal between Fox Studios and Marvel Studios to buy the rights of the X-Men and the Fantastic 4? Sure, it is possible. It’s also possible that this could be another mutant task force like we’ve seen in the Fox film universe before.
If you can recall we saw a similar task force in Deadpool 2 during the icebox prison scene where Deadpool and Cable fought their way through an army of the Department of Mutant Containment foot soldiers.
Another possibility is that this is an entirely new organization with the MCU acronym. Some have speculated that it could stand for Mutant Containment Unit.
Regardless, it is pretty exciting to see these MCU labels in the trailer. The real question is, who are these soldiers working for? Could it be William Stryker? I guess we’ll just have to wait and see when Dark Phoenix hits theaters in the summer.

“In DARK PHOENIX, the X-MEN face their most formidable and powerful foe: one of their own, Jean Grey. During a rescue mission in space, Jean is nearly killed when she is hit by a mysterious cosmic force. Once she returns home, this force not only makes her infinitely more powerful, but far more unstable. Wrestling with this entity inside her, Jean unleashes her powers in ways she can neither comprehend nor contain. With Jean spiraling out of control, and hurting the ones she loves most, she begins to unravel the very fabric that holds the X-Men together. Now, with this family falling apart, they must find a way to unite — not only to save Jean’s soul, but to save our very planet from aliens who wish to weaponize this force and rule the galaxy.”
