During a recent interview, director Simon Kinberg talked a bit about his role as the director and how long he had been with the X-Men franchise and how much everyone was on board with him as the director. When asked about the film’s action he stated that he was pushing the boundaries of the PG-13 rating:
…my vision for the film was a more intense…a more raw X-Men film then we done before. So I was very clear with the studio. I said listen. This was going to push the envelope of the PG-13 X-Men movies that we had seen before. It’s going to be much more like the Dark Knight movies or like Logan…um… then it is going to be like the previous X-Men films.
From the look of things, the director has a very dark vision in mind for Dark Phoenix!
What do you all make of this? Are you looking forward to seeing Dark Phoenix be a much grittier film than the previous installments of the franchise? Let us know what you think in the comments below!
Dark Phoenix stars James McAvoy, Michael Fassbender, Jennifer Lawrence, Nicholas Hoult, Tye Sheridan, Sophie Turner, Alexandra Shipp, Kodi Smit-McPhee, Evan Peters, and Jessica Chastain. Here’s the official synopsis:
In DARK PHOENIX, the X-MEN face their most formidable and powerful foe: one of their own, Jean Grey. During a rescue mission in space, Jean is nearly killed when she is hit by a mysterious cosmic force. Once she returns home, this force not only makes her infinitely more powerful, but far more unstable. Wrestling with this entity inside her, Jean unleashes her powers in ways she can neither comprehend nor contain. With Jean spiraling out of control, and hurting the ones she loves most, she begins to unravel the very fabric that holds the X-Men together. Now, with this family falling apart, they must find a way to unite — not only to save Jean’s soul, but to save our very planet from aliens who wish to weaponize this force and rule the galaxy.
Dark Phoenix is set to hit theaters on June 7, 2019. Stay tuned to Heroic Hollywood for the latest news on the future of the X-Men.
