X-Men: Dark Phoenix may have just cast a child actress to portray a younger version of Jean Grey - presumably prior to her first encounter with Professor X.
While it’s a given that Jean Grey would have to appear in an adaptation of the Phoenix Saga, the next X-Men movie might set its sights for a slightly younger version of the character to appear in the next movie before Sophie Turner (Game of Thrones) reprises the role.
IMDB cast listings for X-Men: Dark Phoenix suggest that child actress Summer Fontana will be filming a scene (or several scenes) as a younger version of Jean Grey – presumably either before she gains her Mutant abilities or around the time she’s discovered by Professor Charles Xavier. A younger version of Jean Grey previously appeared in X-Men: The Last Stand in a scene where she revealed her powers for the first time.
While IMDB can be edited by anyone and is thus not the most reliable source when it comes to cast listings, the movie is being filmed in Montreal, Canada – which is worth noting, because Fontana just shared a picture she took in that area:
It won’t be surprising if Dark Phoenix revisits some of the ground that The Last Stand covered, but hopefully the X-Men sequel can focus on being a better adaptation of that story arc this time around.
