While it is exciting to think about the possibilities the Marvel Cinematic Universe will have with mutants once the Disney/Fox merger finishes this March, it is sad to see that some of these projects from interesting filmmakers like Josh Boone will be tossed to the side. Josh Boone is apparently a huge fan of the New Mutants source material, and it would be cool to see what he has in store. Unfortunately, he and Fox executives don’t seem to be seeing eye-to-eye on this one as more reshoots are needed.
Further rumors point to the film being released, but probably not in theaters: a straight-to-Hulu release is more likely. If this is the case, the film would be released to the streaming service in October. If not, it will get a release in November. Here’s hoping everything works out for the best before the Disney/Fox merger.
What do you think of this news? Are you still excited for The New Mutants? Do you think it will still get a big release? Let us know in the usual spot!
Based on the Marvel Comics team of the same name, the film centers on five young mutants who are just discovering their abilities while being held in a secret facility against their will.
Directed by Josh Boone from a script co-written by Knate Lee, The New Mutants stars Anya Taylor-Joy as Illyana Rasputin / Magik, Maisie Williams as Rahne Sinclair / Wolfsbane, Charlie Heaton as Sam Guthrie / Cannonball, Henry Zaga as Roberto da Costa / Sunspot, Blu Hunt as Danielle Moonstar / Mirage, and Alice Braga as Cecilia Reyes.
“Held in a secret facility against their will, five new mutants have to battle the dangers of their powers, as well as the sins of their past. They aren’t out to save the world — they’re just trying to save themselves.”
The New Mutants is scheduled to be released in theaters on August 2, 2019.
