The current big screen X-Men cast has been the main focus of the films since 2011’s X-Men: First Class. Two of that film’s breakout characters Mystique (Jennifer Lawrence) and Beast (Nicholas Hoult) were actually dating in real life while filming the movie. Since then, the couple has split up and gone separate ways but Nicholas Hoult and Jennifer Lawrence have continued to appear in the films alongside each other in major roles.
The X-Men characters’ relationship is still a big storyline in the franchise, which continues this year with much-delayed Dark Phoenix. During a recent interview with Evening Standard, Nicholas Hoult carefully addressed the on-set situation with him and Jennifer Lawrence while filming the X-Men sequels, including Dark Phoenix. Check out what the actor had to say about the situation below.
“It’s pretty similar to Skins, we’re a big family, we’ve been doing those movies since we were 20 years old. As much as the Skins crowd grew up together, the X-Men crowd really grew up together. It’s been a good eight, nine years making those movies. we’ve all got to get along, we’ve all got to have fun.”
X-Men: Dark Phoenix features the on-going adventures of the titular heroes, including those played by Nicholas Hoult and Jennifer Lawrence, but it’s not the only film in the franchise being released this year. The long-awaited superhero horror film The New Mutants is also slated for release later this year but now that the franchise is back in the hands of Marvel Studios, there’s no telling where the franchise will go after 2019.

X-Men: Dark Phoenix is directed by Simon Kinberg and stars James McAvoy, Michael Fassbender, Jennifer Lawrence, Nicholas Hoult, Tye Sheridan, Sophie Turner, Alexandra Shipp, Kodi Smit-McPhee, Evan Peters, and Jessica Chastain.
“In DARK PHOENIX, the X-MEN face their most formidable and powerful foe: one of their own, Jean Grey. During a rescue mission in space, Jean is nearly killed when she is hit by a mysterious cosmic force. Once she returns home, this force not only makes her infinitely more powerful, but far more unstable. Wrestling with this entity inside her, Jean unleashes her powers in ways she can neither comprehend nor contain. With Jean spiraling out of control, and hurting the ones she loves most, she begins to unravel the very fabric that holds the X-Men together. Now, with this family falling apart, they must find a way to unite — not only to save Jean’s soul, but to save our very planet from aliens who wish to weaponize this force and rule the galaxy.”
The film is set to hit theaters on June 7, 2019.
