‘Aquaman’: Yahya Abdul-Mateen II Confirms His Black Manta Role

Yahya Abdul-Mateen II has finally broken his silence about being cast as Black Manta in Aquaman. When the casting was announced, his Baywatch co-star and fellow DC Universe villain, Dwayne ‘Black Adam’ Johnson offered a warm welcome and after a long two months later Abdul-Mateen has officially responded. Beating out a few other big names for the Black Manta role, such as Trevante Rhodes and Corey Hawkins, Abdul-Mateen joins an already amazing cast. Coming off of the raw and incredible The Get Down and this summers Baywatch, it’s interesting to see where his career takes him next.

James Wan’s Aquaman, starring Jason Mamoa as Arthur Curry a.k.a. Aquaman, Amber Heard as Mera, Willem Dafoe as Nuidis Vulko, Yahya Abdul-Mateen II as Black Manta and Patrick Wilson as Orm a.k.a. Ocean Master, is set to come out in theaters on December 21, 2018. The screenplay comes from Will Beall, with story by Wan and DC Films co-head Geoff Johns.

Mamoa, Heard and Dafoe will also be seen in Zack Snyder’s Justice League film, starring Ben Affleck, Henry Cavill, Amy Adams, Gal Gadot, Ezra Miller, Raymond Fisher, Jesse Eisenberg, Jeremy Irons, Diane Lane, Connie Nielson, and J.K. Simmons, which opens in theaters on Friday, November 17
