‘Aquaman’ Star Yahya Abdul-Mateen II Cast In Keanu Reeves’ ‘The Matrix 4’

Variety reports Aquaman star Yahya Abdul-Mateen II has been cast as a lead character in Keanu Reeves’ The Matrix 4.

The Matrix franchise will return to a big screen with a new sequel directed by Lana Wachowski and starring Keanu Reeves as Neo. Now, Variety reports Aquaman star Yahya Abdul-Mateen II will join Keanu Reeves and Carrie-Anne Moss in The Matrix 4 after being one of several actors to meet with Lana Wachowski about a secret role.

While Yahya Abdul-Mateen II’s role in The Matrix 4 could not be confirmed, Justin Kroll noted that one source said it would be “inaccurate” to say the Aquaman star had been cast as young Morpheus. However, Kroll added that a couple of insiders noted there is a strong possibility that Yahya Abdul-Mateen II will play a character connected to Morpheus, like a son or nephew.

The Matrix and its two sequels collectively earned a total of $1.6 billion at the worldwide box office. Keanu Reeves and Carrie-Anne Moss portrayed Neo and Trinity, respectively, in all three chapters of the Matrix film series, each of which were directed by Lana and Lilly Wachowski.

Directed by Lana Wachowski, who co-wrote the script with Aleksandar Hemon and David Mitchel, The Matrix 4 stars Keanu Reeves, Carrie-Anne Moss, and Yahya Abdul-Mateen II. Production on The Matrix 4 is reportedly eyeing an early 2020 start date with Lana Wachowski also serving as a producer alongside Grant Hill.
