SPOILERS: ‘Young Justice: Outsiders’ Brings In Two Iconic Batman Characters

Warning: The Following post contains major spoilers on Young Justice: Outsiders and two major Batman characters.

Today, DC Universe released three new episodes of Young Justice: Outsiders and the sixth entry of the animated series’ new season may have introduced two major Batman characters.

Over five years after Young Justice was canceled by Cartoon Network, DC Universe has revived the animated series for a third season subtitled Outsiders and the episode titled “Rescue Op” seems to have negated the death of Jason Todd despite the fact that the character is among those honored on the memorial in Mount Justice, as seen in the second season of the show.

The episode largely centers on Prince Brion of Markovia’s desire to find his missing sister, Tara, and his resolve is only strengthened after a giant boulder is dropped on someone by an assassin. Based on the fact that the Royal Family member’s powers are related to geological forces, Dr. Jace (the Markovian doctor who made Prince Brion undergo the Meta-gene activation that granted him his ability to manipulate geologic forces) assumes the assassin could be Tara and her supposition prompts our heroes to travel to Infinity Island, where Ra’s Al Ghul and the League of Shadows operate.

Their arrival eventually leads to a conflict with the Sensei and a ninja wearing a red hood and a mask, though our heroes are forced to leave once Ra’s informs them that Tara is not on the island while also revealing that he’s been kicked out of the Light and no longer serves as the leader of the League of Shadows. However, as they depart, the mysterious ninja removes his red hood and reveals a similar hairstyle to Nightwing and Robin before uttering, “Gray…son?” to which Ra’s Al Ghul responds by saying, “your memory’s finally returning. Excellent.” This exchange and the fact that the character is listed as “Red Hooded Ninja” in the episode credits suggests that Jason Todd, the second Robin, shared a similar fate as his comic book counterpart, who found himself in the care of Talia Al Ghul and the League of Shadows after being resurrected following a fatal confrontation with The Joker.

However, the most surprising moment of the episode may have occurred during the end when Talia Al Ghul steps out of the shadows while holding a baby, potentially marking Damian Wayne’s introduction to the series. In the comics, Damian Wayne is the son of Bruce Wayne and Talia Al Ghul who was genetically perfected and grown in an artificial womb to become the perfect warrior in the League of Shadows and a potential successor to Batman. Though Bruce Wayne was unware of his son’s existence, Talia leaves a teenage Damian in his care and the troubled youth is eventually inspired by his father to renounce the League’s ways and becomes the fifth character to adopt the Robin mantle.
