It’s safe to say that Zachary Levi’s Shazam! continued the trend of unique standalone films that DC started with Aquaman after Justice League. The heartfelt moments mixed with amazing superhero action in Zachary Levi’s Shazam! made it a compelling film to both fans and critics alike. That’s why Warner Bros. and DC decided to give the film’s sequel the green light, just like they did with Wonder Woman and Aquaman. The only real question that remains is, when is the sequel to Zachary Levi’s Shazam! coming?
In a recent interview with AP News, Zachary Levi said that the script for the Shazam! sequel was already being written. Warner Bros. was revealed to have brought back Shazam! writer Henry Gayden to script the sequel just after the first film hit theaters. In addition, Zachary Levi also revealed that he expects the film sequel would start filming around this time next year, either late spring or early summer. That could mean that the film could possibly debut as early as summer or fall 2021.

Here is the official synopsis for Zachary Levi’s Shazam!:
We all have a superhero inside us, it just takes a bit of magic to bring it out. In Billy Batson’s (Asher Angel) case, by shouting out one word—SHAZAM!—this streetwise 14-year-old foster kid can turn into the adult Super Hero Shazam (Zachary Levi), courtesy of an ancient wizard. Still a kid at heart—inside a ripped, godlike body—Shazam revels in this adult version of himself by doing what any teen would do with superpowers: have fun with them! Can he fly? Does he have X-ray vision? Can he shoot lightning out of his hands? Can he skip his social studies test? Shazam sets out to test the limits of his abilities with the joyful recklessness of a child. But he’ll need to master these powers quickly in order to fight the deadly forces of evil controlled by Dr. Thaddeus Sivana (Mark Strong).
Directed by David F. Sandberg, Shazam! stars Zachary Levi, Asher Angel, Mark Strong, Jack Dylan Grazer, Grace Fulton, Faithe Herman, Ian Chen, Jovan Armand, Cooper Andrews, Marta Milans and Djimon Hounsou.
Shazam! is now playing in theaters.
