Shazam! is arriving to theaters four months after Aquaman ruled the box office charts. Box office reports coming out of Shazam!‘s opening weekend seem to reflect that the Zachary Levi-led film will have a healthy box office life span of its own. According to Variety, Zachary Levi’s superhero origin film earned $102 million in its opening weekend from 79 foreign markets.
When including the U.S. opening weekend gross of Shazam!, that brings the film’s worldwide total to $158.6 million. Although Aquaman topped $1 billion at the worldwide box office, many fans fear that Zachary Levi’s Shazam! may not have that luxury due to Avengers: Endgame arriving in just under three weeks. Thanks to great word-of-mouth, Shazam! will hopefully have strong legs going into the weeks proceeding Avengers: Endgame.
Between Shazam! and Avengers: Endgame is one more comic book adaptation, Hellboy. The R-rated reboot starring David Harbour as Hellboy hits theaters this Friday. We’ll be sure to keep you updated on all news regarding Zachary Levi’s Shazam! as soon as more information becomes available. Did you see Shazam! in theaters this weekend? Directed by David F. Sandberg, Shazam! stars Zachary Levi, Asher Angel, Mark Strong, Jack Dylan Grazer, Grace Fulton, Faithe Herman, Ian Chen, Jovan Armand, Cooper Andrews, Marta Milans, and Djimon Hounsou.
We all have a superhero inside us, it just takes a bit of magic to bring it out. In Billy Batson’s (Angel) case, by shouting out one word—SHAZAM!—this streetwise 14-year-old foster kid can turn into the adult Super Hero Shazam (Levi), courtesy of an ancient wizard. Still a kid at heart—inside a ripped, godlike body—Shazam revels in this adult version of himself by doing what any teen would do with superpowers: have fun with them! Can he fly? Does he have X-ray vision? Can he shoot lightning out of his hands? Can he skip his social studies test? Shazam sets out to test the limits of his abilities with the joyful recklessness of a child. But he’ll need to master these powers quickly in order to fight the deadly forces of evil controlled by Dr. Thaddeus Sivana (Strong).
