Zack Snyder’s last theatrically-released film was 2017’s Justice League, though that could be argued given that his vision for the film was mainly re-worked during re-shoots when Joss Whedon boarded the project to help guide it through post-production. Now, Zack Snyder has teamed up with Netflix for a brand new movie titled Army of the Dead. The film is a heist film that takes place during a zombie apocalypse and according to a new report from Deadline, the movie will go through a re-write before cameras roll.
According to Deadline, Army of the Dead will now be written by Zack Snyder and Shay Hatten. The duo will be re-writing the original screenplay, which was written by Joby Harold. Shay Hatten is best known for writing the upcoming threequel, John Wick: Chapter 3-Parabellum.
Before 2017’s Justice League, the last film Zack Snyder was fully involved in the production of was 2016’s Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. Netflix’s Army of the Dead won’t be the first zombie film directed by Zack Snyder because back in 2004, he directed the remake of George Romero’s Dawn of the Dead. The remake was written by another superhero movie alumni, James Gunn.
James Gunn is best known for helming both Guardians of the Galaxy movies. Last year, he was fired from his position as writer and director of Guardians of the Galaxy: Vol. 3. James Gunn then signed on to write and direct the upcoming DC Extended Universe sequel/reboot The Suicide Squad. Since then, the director has also been invited back to helm the third Guardians of the Galaxy film after he finishes The Suicide Squad.
