During his Director’s Cut charity event, director Zack Snyder addressed the audience to explain why he thought Ben Affleck’s Batman could kill in Batman v Superman: Dawn Of Justice.
Zack Snyder offered a Director’s Cut charity event to find resources to help fund a new auditorium for his old art school. The event screened the Dawn of the Dead – Unrated Director’s Cut, Watchmen (Director’s Cut), and Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice Ultimate Edition. Of course, the Zack Snyder Justice League director’s cut was nowhere to be found which generated strong reactions from the people attending the event.
During his Q&A, Zack Snyder started talking about the fact that Ben Affleck’s Batman killed in Batman v. Superman: Dawn Of Justice. This was a particularly controversial and very criticized point in the film which pitted hardcore Ben Affleck’s Batman fans against Zack Snyder. To answer this criticism Zack Snyder simply said that people needed to wake up to the nature of a superhero:
“Someone says to me: [Ben Affleck’s] Batman killed a guy. I’m like, ‘Fuck, really? Wake the fuck up.'”
Zack Snyder then explained that he thought that superheroes weren’t innocent, that the fact that Ben Affleck’s Batman kills is a testimony to that and that fans should wake up from that dream world:
“I guess that’s what I’m saying. Once you lost your virginity to this fucking movie and then you come and and say to me something about like ‘my superhero wouldn’t do that.’ I’m like ‘Are you serious?’ I’m like down the fucking road on that. It’s a cool point of view to be like ‘my heroes are innocent’… That’s cool. But you’re living in a fucking dream world.”

After Justice League, Aquaman followed. The DCEU continues in April with Shazam! on April 5, 2019, which will be followed by Birds of Prey (And The Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn) on February 7, 2020, and Wonder Woman 1984 on June 5, 2020. A standalone Joker film set outside of the DC Films universe starring Joaquin Phoenix as the Clown Prince of Crime is also set to hit theaters October 4, 2019
Here is the synopsis for Shazam! DC’s next film:
We all have a superhero inside us, it just takes a bit of magic to bring it out. In Billy Batson’s (Angel) case, by shouting out one word—SHAZAM!—this streetwise 14-year-old foster kid can turn into the adult Super Hero Shazam (Levi), courtesy of an ancient wizard. Still a kid at heart—inside a ripped, godlike body—Shazam revels in this adult version of himself by doing what any teen would do with superpowers: have fun with them! Can he fly? Does he have X-ray vision? Can he shoot lightning out of his hands? Can he skip his social studies test? Shazam sets out to test the limits of his abilities with the joyful recklessness of a child. But he’ll need to master these powers quickly in order to fight the deadly forces of evil controlled by Dr. Thaddeus Sivana (Strong).
Directed by David F. Sandberg, DC Shazam! stars Zachary Levi, Asher Angel, Mark Strong, Jack Dylan Grazer, Grace Fulton, Faithe Herman, Ian Chen, Jovan Armand, Cooper Andrews, Marta Milans, and Ron Cephas.
Shazam! will be released in theaters on April 5, 2019.
