Zack Snyder recently opened up about 2013's Man of Steel and its high-anticipated follow-up Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice.
Director Zack Snyder took some time off his busy schedule to promote the final Clash the Superbowl contest in an interview with the Hall of Justice podcast, where he said that the rest of the superheroes who will be making an appearance in the movie will only have minor roles, except Wonder Woman who will eventually bring Batman and Superman together in order to take down Doomsday.
“As far as the other Justice League characters go, they play a very small role. It’s really just a whisper they exist. Except for Wonder Woman, we see her really well. But really the movie is about Batman and Superman. And we really take time with them and we really drill down on the why of them and what they stand for and their beliefs and them as characters. That’s pretty much the why of the movie. But again as I said, it does begin the conversation about these guys are out there.”
Zack Snyder then went on to reveal that they’re currently deep into post-production on the movie and that it should be finished fairly soon. In the meantime, the studio is already in early stages of pre-production on Justice League, which should begin filming later this year in London.
“We’re pretty much done, I mean there are a few things, a few 3D shots coming in that we are approving and things like that. I’d say the movie is 90%, 99.9% done. And really at this point we’re just fine tuning the final details while we get Justice League ready.”
While some people tend to criticize Man of Steel for its third act, there are others who aren’t fond of Superman’s portrayal in the movie, primarily because of how different he is compared to previous incarnations. Zack Snyder had the following to say about those who didn’t like his version of the character:
“People are always like, ‘You changed Superman’. If you’re a comic book fan, you know that I didn’t change Superman. If you know the true canon, you know that I didn’t change Superman. If you’re a fan of the old movies, yeah I changed him a bit. That’s the difference. I’m a bit of a comic book fan and I always default to the true canon. Not the cinematic canon that sort of, that in my opinion, plays fast and loose with the rules. And so, I feel like I tried to create a Superman that would set a tone for the world.”
