Spider-Man: Homecoming star Zendaya has revealed that her mysterious Marvel Cinematic Universe character is as akward as her.
When talking to Zendaya after the Marvel panel MTV News’s Josh Horowitz found out why Spider-Man is her favorite super hero
“Spider-Man has always been my favorite… because he’s always been the realest and the coolest. He’s a real kid. He’s normal, and he’s living his life and trying to discover and understand what it’s like to be a human being growing up — while simultaneously saving the world.”
Another interesting tidbit was how deeper her Spider-Man connection is.
“My first date I ever went on was to Spider-Man.”
A safe guess would be she’s talking about Andrew Garfield, the star of the first reboot, The Amazing Spider-Man.
“It’s special. I went when I just turned 16, finally was allowed to date. It was my first date and it was to see Spider-Man. So, full circle!”
During the conference the film was compared to films and shows like Freaks and Geeks and John Hughes movies. Zendaya’s character is assumed to be channeling Linda Cardellini’s character Lindsay Weir as Peter’s friend (who may or may not be crushing on him).
“Everyone, honestly, is so much like their characters,” Zendaya said. “My character is super dry and awkward. It’s great because it’s who I am in real life, so I don’t feel like I have to act too much.”
Spider-Man: Homecoming webslings into theaters on July 7, 2017.
