Zoe Saldana recently spoke to ET Online about Disney and Marvel Studios’ decision to reinstate James Gunn as director for the third installment of the Guardians Of The Galaxy franchise. Zoe Saldana wasn’t only happy for the decision to bring James Gunn back but also revealed that she was proud of Disney a company altogether:
“I’m proud of him. I’m happy that he’s coming back. I’m so proud of Disney, actually, that all the leaders right now behind that big corporation decided to lead by example, and spreading the word and the message of redemption is important.”
Zoe Saldana and her other Guardians of the Galaxy co-stars shared a letter some months ago supporting James Gunn and asking Disney and Marvel Studios to reinstate him as director. But it was the way James Gunn handled the entire situation that ultimately lead to his return.
Disney took James Gunn off anything related to Marvel Studios after they sacked him for some offensive tweets that he made years ago. This decision enraged fans and was seen as an incorrect move by Disney and Marvel since James Gunn took the mostly unknown Guardians of the Galaxy and made them a recognizable and profitable franchise for the entertainment giant.
James Gunn had completed his script for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 and production was scheduled to begin early this year. However, the project was put on hold following the decision to remove James Gunn as the director of the final chapter in the trilogy, though Disney and Marvel Studios reportedly intended to use his script. Now, production on the third Guardians film will begin after James Gunn directs The Suicide Squad for Warners.
