New ‘Zootopia’ Easter Egg Discovered And Confirmed In ‘Big Hero 6’

Disney is notorious for putting Easter eggs into all of its movies, especially when they concern their other movies. Eagle-eyed fans over at Oh My Disney recently discovered a new Easter egg hiding out in Big Hero 6 (the 2014 Academy Award-winning animated film) containing a nod to 2016’s Academy Award-winning animated feature, Zootopia.

Did you catch it? Honey Lemon’s cell phone case is none other than the wily fox, Nick Wilde, from Zootopia. Sporting Nick’s signature tie, the cell phone case is actually based on an early design for the character.

Oh My Disney also caught up with Big Hero 6 Art Director Scott Watanabe to ask him about the egg.

Early on, Honey Lemon’s phone case was designed to look like a bear, to conjure up a “honey” connection, but we came across a few similar designs in our research. I began to think of other animals and Nick Wilde, the fox from Zootopia (which was in production at the time), came to mind. Thought it might be a fun Easter egg for fans to look out for in the film.

In fact, they also received a piece of art featuring the proposed design that was then sent on to the animators.

Even though Disney oftentimes looks at its past films when adding Easter eggs, this time they looked forward and incorporated an egg from a film that was still in development. So, did you spot this egg when watching Big Hero 6? Do you enjoy hunting for Disney’s Easter eggs?
