Michael Slovis
The Breaking Bad regular returns to AMC to direct his first episode of Preacher, and he did a very good job. Unlike the last two episodes, it’s evident from the get-go that this fifth installment is from a seriously-good director, and the rest of the episode doesn’t let you think otherwise. It’s clear that, when this show is in the hands of a visionary (or two), great hands come at hand. “South Will Rise Again,” unlike the last two episode, regularly pops, even when it’s just two characters talking to one another (which happens a lot in here). Every scene is impeccably well-made, given the cinematic stamp it needs to excel, and it produces one of the finest episodes to date. Please come back for more, Mr. Slovis. You’re certainly welcomed back in this house again anytime soon.
